Trupanion Is Very Sneaky, Deceptive
by: Mickey

I insured my adult, adopted dogs with Trupanion. At first, I could only insure one. A year later, I was able to afford adding the other. The second dog had patella luxation, grade3 on both rear legs surgically corrected before he was insured. His lower spine/hip area had become sore which was how we found the problem. 6 months after he had insurance, he was in pain up around his neck/shoulder area. The vet said it was disc disease. Trupanion rejected all claims saying that because he had soreness in his back before he was insured, it is now a "pre-existing" condition and is not covered. Trupanion said they make these decisions based on symptoms, not the actual problem. My vet says that the two incidents are not related, but Trupanion, to date, could care less. Stay away from this company. Also, they raised my rates on the first dog after 1 year.

Hello, does anyone know how well Trupanion covers things like lyme disease in dogs or cancer in dogs?

Stay away from Trupanion
by: Anonymous

I had my dog insured with Trupanion since when he was
3 1/2 month old. I had 6 claims one was within the 30 days (I have not claim this one in Trupanion added it when I faxed them all the records for the dog) the claim where anywhere from $12, $15, $22, $30, $70 to $425 (this last one for X-Rays) and they spread over a period of 4 months from the initial insurance date. All of the claims where rejected Trupanion saying that all of the problems he had where pre-existing conditions therefore the is no payment for the claims. When I called to cancel the policy they did not wanted to cancel it and it took me 2 days of calling to finally have the policy cancelled. I have spent more time to cancel the policy than to sign up. This is a company you should steer clear from it. All the best and keep your pets safe.

Rates were raised 62% after 1st year
by: Ken B

I just got a premium notice that my premium went up from $41 to $66 month. My dog is 1 year old. I had a claim for $130 paid. They told me on chat that they have not raised premiums since starting in 2008. They should raise rates of 3-4 year policy holders now, and gradually raise rates as you are with them. They lie when they told me today they don't raise rates based on age of pet or claims. I don't think vet bills have gone up 62% since 2008. Don't get scammed by Trupanion. You will be sorry after 1st year.

The best insurance I found!
by: Anonymous

I lost my two best friends within two days. One was 14 and had congestive heart failure the other was 15 and had liver failure. It was a rough time - to put it mildly. I did eventually get a new shelter puppy and I spent a month reseaching the various insurance companies as I did not want to go through agonizing decisions to spend large sums of money when there is little hope for benefit EVER again. I am in research and analysis for a living and I decided Trupanion was the best available for our needs. We have now been happy customers for two years. I think the person who did not realize that exams fall under non-covered preventative care should have read the policy and chosen differently if they wanted to waste money on a policy that covers such things.

Don't go with Trupanion!
by: Anonymous

They seemed good with 90% payout and low deductibles but that is per incident deduct. not annual. Plus they don't pay for the office visit which in our case, we needed to see an out of town vet on the weekend since we were traveling and that was $110.
I submitted the claim and xrays were taken, 2 views since we did not know if our dog had swallowed any tennis ball pieces the night before or not. Since he was being sedated and xrays were being taken, I asked them if they would be able to see if he has hip dysplasia or not. The vet said that sure, they would be able to see that and lmk.
Trupanion says now that they will only cover half of the xray charge (another $85 of the claim Trupanion will not cover) since I asked about hip dysplasia for the xray, and it was a pre existing condition from his wellness exam 5 mo. previous, when I mentioned to the vet that he growled when his hind leg was touched. OMG, they really find any reason at all not to pay on claims. I am switching to a better more upright pet insurance, these guys are shady! Read more online about people experiencing the same like my claim experience.

Very happy with Trupanion
by: Kathleen

They have been really wonderful for my two dogs. I have had to only file one claim thus far and they processed it very quickly and were very helpful. I like that they also don't have a dollar limit on their policy, compared to other companies. I'm glad we went with them.

Excellet Coverage and Service!
by: Jamie

I have been with Trupanion for about a year now and they have provided my dog and I with extraordinary service! I really like that they cover 90% of our vet bills, allow us to go to any vet we wish, and they cover hereditary disorders. Their customer service staff is very helpful and pleasant to speak with. I would definitely recommend checking this company out if you are a pet owner. I would recommend this to my family and friends!
