Selling Pet Insurance

Selling pet insurance can be easier if you follow these seven pointers. The pet insurance industry grows up to 20% every year. This is tremendous growth for any industry. And considering that roughly one percent of animals are insured, this industry will continue to grow rapidly for many years.

So if you're interested in selling pet insurance policies to pet owners here are seven pointers to help deal convey the importance of having a policy on their pet.

Seven pointers for selling pet insurance:

1. Sell the emotional aspect of it. Remind pet owners that sometimes when it comes to making a hard medical decision, it is best to not let finances get in the way.

2. Stress how veterinary expenses are growing at twice the rate of inflation. This essentially means that it's growing faster than their salary is growing. Having a policy can protect them against this.

3. Show figures about how much emergency care can cost for their pets. Emergency visits are the most expensive care that their pet can receive, and is also one of the most financially challenging ones for pet owners to pay. This alone is one of the biggest reasons to have pet insurance.

4. Show stories of people who have been helped by pet insurance. Gather articles or newspaper clippings about how people have been helped by having a pet insurance policy. This gives you social proof, which can be a big selling asset.

5. Put pressure on them that having pet insurance is responsible pet ownership. This is a highly unethical point some salespeople use to pressure pet owners. They make them feel that if they do not buy a policy they are not being a responsible pet owner. Trying to sell a policy this way can backfire you and make you look very bad.

6. Try to sell them on the basic plan and tell them that it is the cheapest plan and then upsell them to a larger plan. The upsell is one of the easiest ways to get a person to spend more money on their pet insurance policy. By showing them the cheapest plan first day they will get excited about how affordable it is. Then you show them for a little bit more money that they can get a lot more protection.

7. Tell them how easy it is to be reimbursed and how quickly they will be reimbursed. But only tell them this if you are sure that the company you are selling policies for actually does reimburse them quickly.

Selling pet insurance does not have to be hard. By using these pointers you can close more deals. Remember in most cases you are helping pet owners. By just presenting the facts and by not pressuring them you can lead them into making a proper choice for their pets.
