Poodle pet insurance is available from most pet insurance companies. Here is a little about their history and some breed specific conditions to be aware of.

History

The Poodle is considered one of the most intelligent dogs. While there are several different sizes of poodles (standard, miniature, medium, and toy) they are all the same breed. Originally bred to be a water dog in Germany, they gained popularity in France.

Poodles are prized for their hypoallergenic coats and intelligence.

Breed Specific Conditions

While overall the Poodle is a very healthy dog, there are a few disease conditions that show up this breed, these include:

Addison's Disease - This is an endocrine disorder where the adrenal gland does not produce enough steroid hormones resulting in fatigue, weakness, GI problems, and skin problems.

Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus - In Standard Poodles, the stomach is prone to bloating and twisting, which and be fatal if not treated quickly. Signs of this include non-productive retching, restlessness, and pain.

Chronic Active Hepatitis - Inflammation of the liver can lead to liver failure.

Epilepsy - A condition in which the dog suffers from unpredictable spontaneous seizures, of which the cause is often unknown.

Hip Dysplasia - A malformation of the hip socket and lead to pain and lameness when trying to walk.

Summary

These disease conditions can be seen in the Poodle and are conditions that an insurance company would factor into your monthly pet insurance premium. Always be sure to get at least three quotes before buying any Poodle policy.
