Massachusetts pet insurance policies are available through most companies that offer national plans. However one company which is PetFirst, does not offer plans in this state.

There might be other companies that also do not offer plans in this state but as of right now I am only aware of PetFirst.

Luckily there are many other companies that offer plans for the state. If you are thinking about buying a pet insurance policy you should at least get a quote soon. Remember that there are waiting periods for insurance periods to kick in so don't wait until your pet is sick to look into getting a policy.

What You Need To Know

1. Before you call a pet insurance company for a quote decide how much you are willing to spend, at least come up with a ballpark range per month or per year. If you don't have a set amount in your mind beforehand these companies can easily upsell you to a more expensive plan that you did not want.

2. Always ask for discounts. Since pet insurance is a competitive industry most of them offered discounts if you insure multiple pets with them, if your pet is properly identified, has had training courses, or if you are a member of a professional organization. Always ask for a discount because likely you'll get one just for asking.

3. Its always a good idea to get at least three quotes before buying a policy. This way you can get a good ballpark range on prices and coverage.

While most companies offer policies online or through 1-800 numbers you can always call a local insurance broker and see if they can offer you a pet insurance policy at a cheaper price than what you can find online.

Not only is it good for the local economy, but you can also have someone looking out for you in this situation.
