Great Dane Pet InsuranceGreat Dane pet insurance is available from most pet insurance companies. Here is a little about their history and some breed specific conditions to be aware of. HistoryThe Great Dane is one of the largest breeds of dog, along with the Irish Wolfhound. This dog originated from Germany and Denmark. These dogs are at least 30 inches tall at the shoulders, and their weight is well over 100 pounds. Currently their popularity ranks 22nd out of 156 dog breeds according to the American Kennel Club. Like other large breed dogs, their average lifespan is less than 10 years.
Breed Specific ConditionsWhile overall the Great Dane is a healthy dog, there are a few disease conditions that show up this breed, these include: Bloat - A condition called Gastric Volvulus where the dog's stomach twists upon itself trapping gas. This can be a deadly condition if not treated rapidly.
Dilated Cardiomyopathy - A progressive dilation of the heart which eventually results in heart failure. SummaryThese disease conditions can be seen in the Great Dane and are conditions that an insurance company would factor into your monthly pet insurance premium. Insurance for this breed is much more expensive than other breeds of dogs, due to their size and very short lifespan.
