History

The German Shepard is considered one of the most intelligent dogs. It is a large sized dog belonging to the herding group. It is very popular as a working dog among police officers and Guards. Originally from Germany, adults can weight up to 90 pounds and 25 inches tall. Currently they rank 3rd in popularity out of 156 dog breeds according to the American Kennel Club.

Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus - In German Shepards, the stomach is prone to bloating and twisting, which and be fatal if not treated quickly. Signs of this include non-productive retching, restlessness, and pain.

Hemangiosarcoma - A tumor commonly found in the liver, and is usually fatal.

Epilepsy - A condition in which the dog suffers from unpredictable spontaneous seizures, of which the cause is often unknown.

Hip Dysplasia - A malformation of the hip socket and lead to pain and lameness when trying to walk.
