Dog and Homeowner Insurance

Dog and homeowner insurance sometimes don't always go hand in hand. This is simply because most homeowner insurance companies do not want to pay for, or even offer, liability insurance for dog related accidents.

One of the biggest reasons for this is a sheer number of dog bites that happen in the US every year. According to some estimates 2% of the population or 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs every year.

Surprisingly, most of these happen in the home and happen to young children in the house. These children are not bitten by strange dogs, but are bitten by their own dogs.

Because of this, dog homeowner insurance policies over the last decade have started excluding dog coverage of any kind.

Some companies still combine dog and homeowner insurance but you have to read your insurance policy to make sure, or call your homeowners insurance company to make sure that you are covered.

Don't wait until it's too late to find out whether you're covered or not. It only takes five minutes to make a phone call today.

If you find out that your insurance does not offer dog liability insurance and you can always ask if you can add it as an option to your existing policy. If they don't let you add it as an option, you might want to think about finding a different insurance company that will cover all your needs.
