Dog Life Insurance
Dog life insurance is good way to protect yourself financially if you make any income at all off of your dogs. This could include showing dogs, breeding dogs and selling the puppies, or are selling stud services. If you derive a significant amount of your income from any of these activities it might make sense to purchase life insurance. Life Versus Medical Many of the dog insurance companies out there are only offer medical insurance. Remember there is a big difference between having been health insurance and life insurance, so please don’t confuse the two. Life insurance only pays out after the dog dies. For example if your dog got sick and died from parvovirus you could be reimbursed. Medical insurance is for actually paying for the medical expenses of the dog. For example if the dog has parvovirus and was treated it would pay the veterinary bill, that would not pay you for any lost income from the dog not being able to be productive.
Remembering the difference between those two is vital to make sure that you’re getting the correct type of insurance. Does it make sense to get dog life insurance? The only way you can answer this question is if you call and get a quote from a couple of companies that offer this type of insurance. Then add up how much you would pay over the life of the dog. Remember on average dogs live about 12 years, so add up your whole premium. Now figure out how much income you expect to bring in from this dog. If it is significantly more than the premium that it might make good sense to purchase a life policy. This would make good sense if you are a serious dog breeder, or have world-class show dogs. If you are just a hobby breeder or a part time exhibitor, it will likely not make sense to buy a policy. But again you must decide this for yourself so make sure you get at least trying get at least three quotes.
