Dog Bite Insurance Claims

Dog bite insurance claims should be filed as soon after the bite as possible. Also to protect yourself you need to find out if the dog has been vaccinated for rabies.

Finding this out is far more important than worrying if you're going to be compensated financially. Rabies is a fatal disease so if the dog is not properly vaccinated for rabies you'll need to get medical attention immediately.

After The Bite

If you've been bitten by a dog you should go and get medical attention if necessary right away. Dog bites are filled with bacteria and it can lead to a systemic infection if you're not careful. If you cannot get to the doctor right away make sure you wash it thoroughly with soap and water.

Document Everything

It is a good idea that when you get a chance after the bite has happened to write down everything that you remember about it. Was the dog on a leash, what type of dog was it, did you do anything to provoke the dog, who was walking the dog?

Even seemingly mundane details like which side of the street and what time of the day might prove important later if needed.

If the bite is severe and you are thinking that you would need financial compensation to pay for the medical expenses you should seek legal counsel.

While most dog bites are minor and need no medical attention some bites are severe and can cause you to miss work and make it necessary to pay for expensive medical bills.

In these situations you should look into seeking financial compensation for your losses from the responsible parties.

You should not talk to the owner of the dog until after you have spoken to your lawyer first. To speak to the owner of the dog that bit you first you might disclose some details that might later compromise the case should it go to court.

The Dog Owner

If you are the owner of a dog that has bitten someone it is important that you can prove that your dog has been properly vaccinated for rabies and is current on the rabies vaccine.

Also you would likely need to prove that the person who was bitten took steps to provoke the dog into biting. For example, was the person was teasing the dog or provoking the dog.

It is important that you do not admit any fault in the accident until after you have speaking spoken to a lawyer as well
