Cat Dental Insurance

Cat dental insurance can be worth the money, especially if you have an older cat or one that that been prone to dental problems in the past.

Why Get It?

Cats can be especially prone to dental problems on their back molars. They can be especially hard for a cat owner to see that there is a problem with her cat’s hind teeth until they take him to the veterinary clinic or that they see that the cat is not eating.

While cat dental procedures and cleanings generally cost less than dog dental procedures they can still cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars sometimes.

Teeth have a big impact on the overall health of your cat period. One bad tooth can lead to weight loss, septicemia, and sometimes even organ damage. Not to mention the chronic pain and suffering that your pet will feel.

Is Dental Already Included?

To find out if your plan has dental insurance read over your policy manual carefully if it does not, ask if it can be included as an option to the regular policy.

Some companies will have dental coverage already included in their regular polices, while for others, you need to purchase it separately, or buy an all inclusive cat insurance policy.

Preventing Dental Problems

One way to prevent pet dental problems is to brush your cat’s teeth or at least feed them a hard kibble diet. Feeding only soft food leads to plaque buildup on the back molars which can expedite dental disease.

Take the time to regularly inspect your cat’s teeth. That way you can catch dental problems earlier. Also be sure to take your cat for annual checkups.

Summary

Don’t wait until your cat has to have dental procedure to find out if you are covered or not. Read your policy today or call your provider.

Remember most cat dental insurance policies have waiting periods, so buying a policy right after the problem is found by your veterinarian will not help you.
