Bulldog pet insurance is available from most pet insurance companies. Here is a little about their history and some breed specific conditions to be aware of.

History

The Bulldog is a stocky breed of dog that originated from England. Originally bred for sport, modern Bulldogs have lost much of their athletic ability and today are very prone to obesity and joint problems. Adults can weight over 50 pounds.

Breed Specific Conditions

While overall the Bulldog is a very healthy dog, there are a few disease conditions that show up this breed, these include:

Cherry Eye - A prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid, surgical replacement is needed to fix the problem.

Skin Fold Dermatitis - Deep skin folds and retain moisture allowing bacteria and yeast to grow, and cause an infection.

Hip Problems - Although this breed does not normally get hip dysplasia, they can experience hip problems later in life.

Entropion - A medical condition where the eyelids roll inwards towards the eye resulting in corneal irritation. Surgery is needed to correct this condition.

Dystocia - Due to the BulldogÕs large head, it can be difficult to give birth, which may result in the needing of a C-section to deliver the puppies.

Summary

These disease conditions can be seen in the Bulldog and are conditions that an insurance company would factor into your monthly pet insurance premium. Always be sure to get at least three quotes before buying any Bulldog policy.
