Boxer Pet InsuranceBoxer pet insurance is available from most pet insurance companies. Here is a little about their history and some breed specific conditions to be aware of. HistoryThe Boxer is a medium sized dog that most often has a brindled coat. They originated from Germany and are commonly used as guard dogs or police dogs. Adults can reach up to 75 pounds, and their overall lifespan is 10 to 12 years. Boxer dogs have a very characteristic boxy shaped head and were bred originally from English bulldogs.
Breed Specific ConditionsWhile overall the Boxer is a very healthy dog, there are a few disease conditions that show up this breed, these include: Aortic Stenosis - A narrowing of the aorta valve can result in congestive hear failure. Boxer Cardiomyopathy - A disease of the heart's electrical conduction system, this results in the dog's heart beating erratically sometimes.
Degenerative Myelopathy - A spinal disease seen in older dogs that results in loss of coordination of the legs. Bloat - Large dogs like Boxers can experience bloat and gastric dilatation and torsion. Entropion - A medical condition where the eyelids roll inwards towards the eye resulting in corneal irritation. Surgery is needed to correct this condition. Dystocia - Due to the Boxer's large head, it can be difficult to give birth, which may result in the needing of a C-section to deliver the puppies. SummaryThese disease conditions can be seen in the Boxer and are conditions that an insurance company would factor into your monthly pet insurance premium. Always be sure to get at least three quotes before buying any boxer policy.
