September 23, 2010 Recently one of the leading pet insurance companies, Trupanion released some figures on what they claim are the most expensive dog breeds. These claims are based on claims paid out since 2000. Here are the 5 most expensive dog breeds when it comes paying insurance claims.

1. English bulldog

The total amount of expenses paid out for this breed was $1.1 million. This is because English Bulldogs are prone to a wide variety of illnesses simply because the breed confirmation. See: English Bulldog Dog Breed Profile

2. Bernese Mountain dog

The Bernese Mountain dog was responsible for $553,000 in claims paid out. This breed is famous for being prone to mast cell tumors. See: Bernese Mountain Dog Breed Profile

3. Rottweiler

4. Great Dane
